On 5th February 2024, Natasha Cox, 36, died after a long battle with cancer, only 4 days after fulfilling her dream of qualifying as solicitor with Redkite Solicitors. While the firm is still reeling from the loss of a loved and inspiring colleague, the firm has embarked on a series of positive steps to create a legacy in memory of Natasha – starting with the ‘Mighty Hike 2024’ across the Gower Peninsula.

Redkite describe Natasha as one of a kind – the kindest soul with the biggest heart and an inspiration to everyone she worked with.

Towards the end of her life, Natasha shared her thoughts on what she had learned during her illness:

“What I have learned and I am attempting to say is that when you feel like it’s too difficult to cope, you have to remind yourself how beautiful the world is and that your life is the most precious thing that you own. It really doesn’t need to be threatened for you to realise that.

“When days seem hard, tell someone how you feel about yourself and them. Tell them that you love them and that you care. I’m not saying that because I am suggesting that it might be their last days but because they might need to hear it. Every day has a positive; it is important that you find it. Whatever the situation that grinds you down, just remember it will eventually pass.”

Natasha’s colleagues at Redkite Solicitors are determined to keep Natasha’s legacy alive. The firm has already held an event to celebrate Natasha’s life by bringing together colleagues and Natasha’s family to share stories of how Natasha impacted the lives of those she worked with.

In memoriam: fundraising, legal education & wellbeing

Redkite is in the process of creating an educational trust fund in Natasha’s name to provide mentoring and financial support to those from less privileged backgrounds who wish to study law. Natasha’s love of dogs, in particular her retriever, Maggie, has inspired the firm to make all its offices dog friendly, with ‘Tash’s treats’ available to all visiting dogs.

Supporting MacMillan Nurses

On the 6th of July 2024, 30 Redkite staff will be taking on the Gower Peninsula ‘Mighty Hike 2024’ in memory of Natasha and to raise money for Macmillan Nurses.

Redkite has pledged to raise £7,000 for Macmillan.

Sophie Jenkins, one of Natasha’s friends and a Partner at Redkite, said:

“For those of you who didn’t have the pleasure of meeting Tash, she was one of a kind. The kindest soul with the biggest heart. She has left a void in our Redkite Family which can never be filled. Tash loved being outside walking and this was where she found her happiness.”

“It seems only right that we celebrate Tash by doing one of her favorite pastimes – walking! A group of us will be taking part in the Hike on the 6th July 2024 in memory of Tash, and to try and raise some money for Macmillan. Tash is one of my best friends and I miss her dearly. Tash and I would spend a lot of our time walking and I know she would have loved to have been part of this hike.”
