In our ‘TSR Legal meets’ interviews, we speak to professionals working in different areas of the legal sector, to draw down on their experience and insight. Rachel Phillips (TSR Legal) meets Jenny Fairhurst, Head of HR & Learning & Development at Lyons Bowe Solicitors.
Q: What has been your 2023 highlight to date?
A: The growth and development of the firm has been outstanding this year. So far this year we have recruited an additional 23 people into the business to support that growth. The teams all work exceptionally hard and this has resulted in record breaking instruction rates and rave reviews from our clients and agents.
Towards the end of 2022 I took over the whole HR function at Lyons Bowe and I have enjoyed getting involved in all the interesting and developing aspects of the firm.
Q: How does your firm stand out from the crowd?
A: As well as constant investment and innovation in the firm’s app and wider technology, we also have an exceptional team here and everyone is passionate about our clients and the success of the business. Having 10 offices across the South West & Wales gives us the opportunity to provide support and legal advice to a wide range of clients.
Our values of Community, Innovation and Ownership give all of our staff the opportunity to thrive and grow with the firm. For our clients and aspiring lawyers, we’re really proud of how we’re breaking down the barriers to the law. From our apprenticeships and various routes to qualifying as a lawyer outside of a degree, we’re really passionate about making the law as accessible and enjoyable as possible.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Lyons Bowe Solicitors?
A: There is a real family feel across the firm and everyone genuinely wants to help and support each other. I love the fact that I can reach out to anyone at any time.
The Managing Director is so passionate about Lyons Bowe and wants to ensure that everyone in the firm has the tools and resource they need. As a mum, the support I get and the autonomy I am offered in my role is priceless as it allows me to have a successful career and be a mum to my 8yr old daughter.
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring lawyers?
A: Think outside the box – you don’t have to have a degree to become a lawyer or a solicitor, there are many other routes to qualification available!
Q: What are you doing to create an inclusive workplace ?
A: We have an open, honest and inclusive culture and are proud of the diversity within the firm. We work hard to make sure that every single person in the business has the opportunity to grow and develop.
Q: What can we expect to see from Lyons Bowe Solicitors for the remainder of 2023?
A: Further business growth with more offices opening up, more development of our website and social media presence as well as increased development of our teams through internal and external learning.
