In our ‘TSR Legal meets’ interviews, we speak to professionals working in different areas of the legal sector, to draw down on their experience and insight. Karen Jones, Managing Director (TSR Legal) meets Karen Meggitt, Regional Managing Partner, Redkite Solicitors to hear what inspires her, how the firm’s investment in people powers a thriving culture, and plans for the next six months.

Q: What has been your 2023 highlight to date?

A: My working highlight to date has been recruiting some excellent talent into my teams in Cardiff, Brecon and Swansea against a background of a really difficult recruitment market. TSR played their part in this by providing some excellent candidates!

Q: Who inspires you the most, and why?

A: My two daughters! Its great to see them making their own way in the world and navigating sometimes difficult situations. Their drive, ambition and tenacity amazes me and I’m proud to see them role modelling behaviour not only for their generation and also those below them.

Q: How does your firm stand out from the crowd?

A: A subjective question and there’s arguably lots of reasons! My top three would be our ambitious acquisition strategy and the opportunities that creates for our people, our ‘people deal’ and our commitment to personal development – particularly our Career Pathways programme – and our Flexible working policy. We also have pretty cool summer parties!

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Redkite Solicitors ?

A: Undoubtedly the people! I love working in a team with the professionals – legal and non-legal – I work with. Everyone plays their part, every part is as important as the next. Opinions and ideas are openly encouraged and we get better results because of this. I’m also proud that our Flexible Working policy has become imbedded in our day to day working life post Covid – we are trusted to hit targets and get the job done within the terms policy and that brings out the best in our people.

Q: What advice would you give to aspiring lawyers?

A: Do your research! Make sure you join a firm that’s right for you and matches your values. Follow firms you’re interested in on social media, get some work experience in different sorts of firms, ask lots of questions at every stage of your journey. Apply the same mentality to the type of work you’re interested in – don’t even go there if it’s not something you’re passionate about. You’ll be working a long time – enjoyment is key!

Q: What are you doing at Redkite Solicitors to create an inclusive workplace?

Q: What can we expect to see from Redkite Solicitors for the remainder of 2023?

A: Next month will mark another milestone in our employee development achievements – following our internal application process we are proud to be offering seven training contracts across the business with trainees following the LPC and SQE route. The seven new trainees will be joining our four current trainees from 1st September. We’ll also be completing our next round of PDRs and the second round of promotion applications for this year. Then there’s the Christmas party!
